SEND at May Park
May Park Primary School is committed to providing an inclusive and supportive learning opportunities for all pupils.
The SEND Team has experience in supporting children and their families, who may face barriers to their learning through difficulties in:
- Cognition and Learning
- Communication and Interaction
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
- Sensory and/or Physical Needs
May Park has a team of Learning and Pastoral Support Assistants who provide in class, small group and individual support to pupils based around their individual needs; building on skills and promoting independence.
The SEND Department has excellent links with external agencies to support pupils at May Park Primary. We liaise closely with local services providing Educational Psychology, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language teams and Health professionals.
May Park Primary commission Child Psychotherapy service The Bridge Foundation to work with families and parents. We also have two LSAs trained as ELSAs (Emotional Literacy Support Assistants) who receive regular supervision from the Educational Psychologists at Bristol City Council.

SEND Transition
We work closely with several nurseries to ensure successful and appropriate transitions for pupils and their parents including sharing information about individual needs. For in-year transitions to other schools and for Year 6 pupils moving to secondary, we ensure relevant information is shared so that pupils are successful and appropriately supported at their new setting.

Bristol’s Local Offer website contains information about SEND provision across the city. It has information for parents and families about a wide range of services that can provide valuable information and support on a range of subjects, from short breaks to accessing additional funding. It also lists a range of agencies and services which may be able to provide parents with additional advice and support.

Supportive Parents provide Bristol’s Independent Advice and Support Service.
They can be contacted directly by parents from 9:30-4:30 every day, including holidays and provide face to face and helpline service.

Please find a link below to the final version of Bristol’s Written Statement of Action (WSOA), and the Ofsted/CQC approval letter for your information. The Written Statement of Action is our response to the Ofsted/Care Quality Commission (CQC) Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) inspection which took place in our local area at the end of last year. It is a transparent, formal framework for improving SEND provision which has been developed with a number of partners and incorporates the views of parents and carers.
Ofsted require that the Written Statement of Action must be published on local websites, so that parents, carers, children and young people can understand the actions we are taking to improve the effectiveness of the local area in identifying and meeting needs, and improving outcomes for children and young people who have SEND.
