Living with COVID

On April 1st 2022, the government set out its new plan to remove remaining restrictions on society while protecting the most vulnerable from COVID-19. This means that we have updated our School Risk Assessment to reflect the new guidance. The full risk assessment can be found at the bottom of the page; however, we have answered some FAQs for parents below.

What COVID measures will the school still have in place? 

We will continue ventilating all classrooms and have CO2 Monitors fitted in teaching rooms. We also have hand sanitisers fitted throughout the school and additional hand washing stations. We will continue to promote good hand hygiene with all our children. In addition, we will continue with more regular cleaning of communal areas. 

Are you doing anything for children who were previously considered Clinically Extremely Vulnerable (CEV)?

Do I need to wear a face covering? 

The legal requirement to wear a face covering no longer applies. However, the government suggests that you continue to wear a face covering in crowded and enclosed spaces where you may come into contact with people you do not normally meet. We encourage and welcome all parents, carers, and visitors to wear a mask as they see fit. 

What do I do if my child has symptoms of COVID 19? 

For children and young people (aged 18 years and under), the government states that "Respiratory infections are common in children and young people, particularly during the winter months and symptoms can be caused by several respiratory infections including the common cold, COVID-19 and RSV.". It goes on to explain that  "For most children and young people, these illnesses will not be serious, and they will soon recover following rest and plenty of fluids. Very few children and young people with respiratory infections become seriously unwell."

 With this in mind, the guidance is that: 

• Children with mild symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, or slight cough, who are otherwise well, can continue to attend their education setting.
• Children with the key symptoms of COVID-19, should not attend the school, given the potential risk to others. The advice is 3 days of self-isolation. 
• Children who are unwell and have a high temperature should stay at home and avoid contact with other people. They can come back to school, college or childcare when they no longer have a high temperature, and they are well enough to attend. The advice is 3 days of self-isolation. 

Where can I get a COVID 19 test? 

Schools are no longer permitted to give free Lateral Flow Test test kits to staff, pupils, or parents unless advised by our local health protection team, local authority or director of public health. However, tests can purchase a COVID-19 test from some pharmacies and retailers, in person or online.
